The 2024 Michigan High School Volleyball State Finals were nothing short of spectacular, showcasing incredible talent and unforgettable moments. With Northville clinching their first-ever Division 1 title and Clarkston Everest Collegiate going undefeated in Division 4, the finals were a true celebration of high school volleyball at its best.

Division 1: Northville Makes History

Both Northville and Rockford entered the Division 1 finals as powerhouses, each with 40 wins and a shared passion for the game. Dressed in matching orange jerseys and black shorts, it was hard to tell the teams apart—until the final whistle blew.

Northville emerged victorious, defeating Rockford in a thrilling four-set match: 26-24, 25-16, 25-27, 25-22. This win marked Northville’s first state championship in program history, a culmination of three consecutive trips to the Final Four.

“What an incredible game of volleyball,” said Northville coach Sarah Lindstrom. “To play against a team like Rockford, who pushed us to our limits, and to come out on top—it’s an honor. These girls are putting women’s volleyball on the map and inspiring the next generation.”

Senior Molly Reck was the heart of the team, leading with 26 kills and sharing the victory with her sister, Mallory, who tallied 20 kills and served the final two points, including a championship-winning ace. “To leave this place happy after two years of heartbreak is indescribable,” Molly shared, overwhelmed with emotion.

The team’s newfound confidence was evident from the start. Coach Lindstrom noted, “We just had a different aura this year. We’ve been here before, and this time, we showed up ready to win.”

Despite the loss, Rockford put up a valiant fight. Junior Olivia Hosford led her team with 20 kills, with strong support from Mallory Wandel, who added 16 kills.

Division 4: Clarkston Everest’s Perfect Ending

Clarkston Everest Collegiate capped off an incredible season by claiming their second consecutive Division 4 state title. The Mountaineers defeated St. Joseph Our Lady of the Lake in an intense four-set battle: 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13.

Not only did Everest secure the championship, but they also finished the season nearly perfect with a 38-0-1 record, their only blemish being a split with Division 2’s North Branch during the regular season.

“This has been an amazing journey,” said head coach Danielle Walker. “The record is incredible, but what matters most is how these girls played for each other. They had fun, supported one another, and created memories that will last a lifetime.”

The Mountaineers faced a spirited challenge from the Lakers, who reached the state finals for the first time in school history. With just seven players—including two eighth graders—the Lakers made Everest fight for every point, even taking a set off the defending champions. Nora Proos led the charge for the Lakers with an impressive 25 kills.

For Everest, Sarah Bradley (a Calvin University commit) dominated with 28 kills, while Samantha Pietras added 16. Erica Walker orchestrated the attack with 45 assists.
